For a laptop, I suppose one could compromise with a hybrid drive (small SSD + large HDD in one drive body), since most laptops only support one drive. For my research the WD black should be a cool call, it's reliable, 7200 rpm and 2 or 3 tb. It's not much, but I use it regularly for work.
